Information Technology and Crisis Management Conference 2003
To explore practical steps in achieving effective crisis management, the Crisis Management Initiative and the United States Institute of Peace co-hosted a conference entitled “Towards Interoperability in Crisis Management,” 11-14 of September 2003, in Helsinki, Finland.
Objective
The objective of the September 2003 conference was to affirm the commitment of international humanitarian and crisis management organisations to interoperability at the political, organisational, field, and technical levels. Such a commitment at the highest political leadership of the agencies is an indispensable factor for achieving interoperability within organisations and among responders in the field. Accordingly, conference participants included high-level representatives of international organisations, expert practitioners involved in humanitarian assistance and crisis management, and technologists who understand the nature of field operations. The September conference identified concrete steps to enhance effective crisis management within and across responding organisations.
Recommendations for the "Plan of Action", concluding remarks, speeches and presentations will be posted on this page as they become available.
