OMG C4I Standardisation

Crisis management organisations have already a number of commercially available groupware systems in their use, which they naturally also bring to bear in the field operations. This, of course, results in operations involving multiple assistance organisations and consequently several non-interoperable systems in the field.

Within a single mission the core processes should not be confined inside each individual organisation but flow frictionless between all the players. However, it is not feasible to require different organisation to commit to a single, monolithic system. Different organisations have different needs, and they must be able to address their particular needs with the most suitable products.

In order to ensure high interoperability between differing freely selected systems ITCM is participating in the development of Object Management Group's (OMG) C4I (command, control, computer, communication and intelligence) standard that will be adopted as the backbone of the ITCM application framework.

OMG C4I standard is to be completed during 2003, after which it will be submitted to the ISO fast-track process.

About Object Management Group

Object Management Group (OMG) is an ISO PAS submitter, able to submit its specifications directly into ISO's fast-track adoption process. In practice this means, that OMG's proposals pass the revision process in ISO thus entering directly to the approval/disapproval phase.
