Standardisation

The ITCM-project supports the development of standardised technical solutions and working practices in crisis management.

Information systems in crisis environments and elsewhere depend on standards - not just in terms of hardware and software, but also in terms of staff capacity. The international community therefore needs to move towards standardisation if it is to take full advantage of ICT: It is standardisation at every stage in the information cycle that will allow information to be integrated and compared with across different organisations.

The use of open standards in the technical development ensures that new crisis management tools are interoperable with each other. The ITCM-project cooperates with the Object Management Group (OMG), which is a non-profit consortium that produces and maintains computer industry specifications for interoperable enterprise applications.  OMG and ITCM project organise together bi-annual  CREATE meetings, which serve as a platform for the development of technical and operational standards and establish a more structured cooperation between international organisations and ICT-vendors.
